Reflection

In my time at FIU, the Global Learning program provided me with the ability to engage diverse individuals collaboratively to analyze and address complex problems that transcend borders. As a global citizen, being able to work with other individuals from around the world to gain new global perspectives on issues affecting the world. In my major of international relations, I was able to meet so many diverse people that had their own assumptions, conceptions, and beliefs about issues like dis/misinformation, climate change, immigration, and more global issues.

I was able to gain global awareness to understand how local and global issues were interconnected. Across my classes and extracurriculars, I saw that making a impact at the local level culminated in an impact on the global level. In AB and the Millennium Fellowship program, I was able to work with individuals at a local level making a difference on the world. Showing that it only takes one small step to change the world.

All the activities that had me engaging with diverse individuals showed me how global engagement occurs. Whether it is at the State Department working on research projects themselves or at Model United Nations conferences debating policy. It takes a willingness of massive proportions to engage with others that have different assumptions, conceptions, and, beliefs around global problems. But its that engagement that fosters the cooperation to learn about new methods to solve local, global, international, and intercultural problems.

My post graduate plans to be a global citizen will result in a combination of global perspective, awareness, and engagement. I will continue seeking out experiences that allow me to work with all types of diverse people. I'd love to continue working in a place as diverse as FIU like Washington D.C. as I've done in my final semester as a Hamilton Scholar. As a professional, I've been able to gain access to the global perspective that policymaking in D.C. has on the global issues. From Think Tanks to NGO's and all other organizations focused on raising global awareness to engage these issues. I also wouldn't mind going and getting into a master's program in international affairs to continue working with like-minded individuals as that part of my undergrad really opened my doors to global learning. All I know is wherever my post-graduate goals lead me that I will be a global citizen cultivating more global learning in the world.
