Experiences
Throughout my time at FIU, I have had many global learning experiences that have complemented the global learning done in classes. These extracurriculars have made me more of a global citizen. I have been able to cultivate my awareness, perspective, and engagement to truly bring make an impact.
FIU in Washington, D.C. Fly-Ins
I was able to participate in two FIU in DC Fly-Ins. My first Fly-In was the virtual DC and the World. In it, I was able to experience the role Washington D.C. has on global engagement. From NGO's to federal agencies like the state department we met many individuals that opened up our global perspective. My second Fly-In was as part of the Hamilton Scholar program. It continued reinforcing our global awareness by letting us engage with Congresspeople and Think Tanks.
Model United Nations
I joined MUN in Spring of 2020. As one of the most prestigious opportunities in SIPA. I meet a network of young individuals focused on global learning and fixing the world's problems through the mechanisms of the UN. I gained a global perspective representing countries and the way the have focused on solving these issues. It was essential in opening my doors to join the Millennium Fellowship program. It also allowed me to volunteer and help during FIU's state of the world conference which reinforced the global learning principles.
Alternative Breaks
In Alternative Breaks, I was able to lead a mission trip to Chenoa Manor, Pennsylvania. This trip was focused on Animal Welfare. While learning in the program we learned about voluntourism among other dangers to become more globally aware. It truly brought me a global perspective in helping out communities around the world affected by issues like youth education, animal welfare, and environmental issues. I continued on to incorporate the UN's sustainable development goals in my time as Director of the program and truly wanted to globally engage these issues.
